Synopsis

This paper examines the relationship between sustainability, economic development, environmental ethics, work ethics, existentialist ethics, and a gender perspective, highlighting their importance for the protection of human dignity and fundamental rights. It argues that economic growth cannot be achieved at the expense of environmental degradation, as this jeopardizes the rights of future generations. From this perspective, sustainability requires reconciling economic progress with social equity, the responsible use of natural resources, and environmental protection. The author highlights the role of businesses and the financial system in promoting sustainable practices through corporate social responsibility, financing renewable energy, reducing environmental impacts, and adopting ethical criteria in economic activity. He also warns of the tensions between the pursuit of immediate profitability and the investments necessary to achieve truly sustainable development.
