Mining: A Key Player in the Energy Transition and Sustainable Development
Synopsis
Current environmental discourse and environmental populism have distorted the roles of the various stakeholders in one of the most ambitious projects of our time: energy transition and sustainable development. Contrary to what one might think, from a pragmatic and technical standpoint, it has been demonstrated that mining plays a key role in all processes of transition, readjustment, and adaptation of energy matrices that depend on fossil fuels globally. An energy transition without mining is, at the very least, a fallacy; this is because the raw materials used to build new “clean energy technologies” come from minerals.
